THE CITY OF VALLEJO
The City of Vallejo is located in Solano County and has a population of approximately 121,000 residents. It is a friendly, active waterfront community that attracts innovative, hardworking people and takes great pride in its 148-year history and maritime heritage. Residents of Vallejo are situated to take advantage of the best of what the area has to offer. Golf, museums, performing arts, boutique shopping, brewpubs and a wide selection of restaurants are all available in Vallejo. Residents and visitors alike enjoy Vallejo's delightful historical downtown area, weekly downtown farmer's market, and beautifully restored Victorian homes and business facades. Vallejo is also home to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, one of America's only combination wildlife, oceanarium and theme parks.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Vallejo Water Department is made of six divisions: Water Treatment, Engineering, Distribution, Watershed and Facilities Management, Water Quality, and Administration/Conservation, which are all dedicated to providing a vital resource to our residents, businesses, schools, City Departments, and community organizations. The Department provides potable water to 150,000 customers through a highly complex system including multiple raw water sources, three surface water treatment plants, a sludge dewatering facility, 600 miles of distribution pipes, 8 pressure zones, 27 pump stations, and 37,000 service connections. Vallejo Water is a Treatment-5/Distribution-5 drinking water agency, classified among the State's largest and most complex water utilities. In addition, the Engineering Division provides engineering reviews for new development projects, and reviews projects from outside agencies that may affect the Water Department. The Engineering Division aids the Distribution, Facilities, and Operations Divisions with their goals to safely and efficiently operate the water system; to help the City meet all Federal and State requirements; to protect public health, and to ensure the system meets the fire-flow needs of the City. The Division also aids in the management of the City's long-term water supply and in protecting the City's water rights for future generations.
The Department's new 5-year capital i mprovement project will significantly increases yearly investments in water infrastructure. These projects will consist mostly of water pipeline replacement and renewal, treatment plant upgrades, pump station improvements, and dam improvements.
