**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (State Bar) is a public corporation within the judicial branch of government whose missions are public protection and access to justice for all citizens.
The State Bar Board of Trustees' Regulation and Discipline Committee (RAD) is seeking an active State Bar licensee to serve as the Special Deputy Trial Counsel (SDTC) Administrator under Rule 2201 of the State Bar Rules of Procedure. This is a full-time position that will carry a caseload in addition to Administrator duties. With the exception of occasional in-person attendance for Board Meetings, court appearances, or as required, this role can be remote within the state of California.
SDTCs serve in place of the State Bar's Chief Trial Counsel in disciplinary matters where the Office of Chief Trial Counsel (OCTC) has been recused. The Administrator is responsible for receiving all referrals from OCTC, conducting preliminary review of all matters, and determining whether the matter should be referred to an SDTC for further processing, including investigation and prosecution. Accordingly, the Administrator substantively supervises the SDTCs and is the final decision-maker on all determinations, including settlement. Additionally, the Administrator prepares and presents reports to the Board of Trustees, reviews and assigns complainant requests for second-look review of closed complaints, ensures timely processing of complaints, coordinates SDTC trainings, reviews and approves all SDTC invoices, assists SDTCs as needed in their cases, and assists in recruitment of new SDTCs. The Administrator will also be responsible for their own caseload of matters assigned for investigation and prosecution.
Applicants should have knowledge and experience in legal ethics, conducting investigations, litigation, State Bar Court rules of procedure and practice, and managing others. Training and materials are provided by the State Bar.
The State Bar offers a unique compensation package, including competitive salary, partial paid employee and retiree health insurance premiums and other benefits, 14 holidays, vacation/sick leave, CalPERS Retirement, a 457(b) savings plan, a commuter subsidy and more. The successful candidate will be placed in classification and provided a salary commensurate with their experience.
