Duties This internship opportunity will start June 2022. Internships can be made for the summer or an entire semester.



The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria Virginia]. However, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is currently under a maximum telework posture due to the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore, this position is currently under a 100 percent telework schedule. The position's telework schedule will likely change in the future when USPTO moves away from its maximum telework posture. At that time, the incumbent will be expected to report to the physical work site in accordance with the updated status requirements of their supervisor. The nature and scope of future telework opportunities will be subject to the unit's telework policy, any applicable bargaining unit agreements, and supervisory approval. Payment of relocation expenses, as applicable, will be paid in accordance with this Job Opportunity Announcement.

This announcement is being used to recruit for multiple intern positions throughout the USPTO. As an intern, you will receive practical experience by engaging in a variety of diverse and challenging activities. Exciting opportunities await you! The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with paid opportunities to work and explore federal careers while completing their education. As an intern, you will perform routine and recurring development assignments to acquire knowledge and understanding of functions, principles, practices and methods used in the areas of information technology, patent examination, or prior art searching.
Duties include but not limited too:
Briefing management officials on technology content
Assisting with research, analysis, and statistics
Assisting with the coordination of briefing books
Participating with meeting and conference planning
Drafting non-final office actions
Researching materials and preparing information
Participating in group/team assignments
Assisting with special projects and new initiatives
Managing databases and inputting information
Drafting various documents and reports
Creating electronic and hard copy case files, maintaining files
Assisting in preparing for a variety of training classes
Creating spreadsheets/charts, etc. using a variety of data sources and information
Assisting in preparing for and observing hearings, cases, panels, interviews, and documenting results
Assisting with researching and contributing toward analysis of IP protection and enforcement policies of U.S. and of selected foreign countries
Requirements Conditions of Employment
You must be a U.S. citizen or national.
Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable (****Meet educational requirement.
Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student in a qualifying educational institution.
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must be in good academic standing.
Qualifications
All applicants applying to participate in the internship must meet the following requirements:
GS-4: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.



GS-5: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.



One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; or technical is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Education All candidates must be enrolled as a student at least half-time basis as determined by the educational institution (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; or advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate . Students must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or higher).



Please note that if you are a Spring or Summer 2022 graduate, you will not be eligible for this internship opportunity unless you are accepted for enrollment at a qualifying educational institution seeking an additional degree (diploma, certificate, degree program, etc.) or an advanced degree. You must submit proof of acceptance along with your current transcripts for consideration.
