About Our Job
The Denver Department of Public Safety is seeking a Senior Team Member to add to our Street Enforcement Team (SET). This team will be unarmed civilians that will enforce quality of life ordinances in the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. The Street Enforcement Team will have the authority to issue citations for a wide range of ordinance violations, but not make arrests.
The Street Enforcement Team Senior Member will enhance public safety through proactive patrols and enforcement of ordinances. The Senior Member will lead the work of Street Enforcement Team Members and liaison with other City departments, agencies, and resource providers to connect those in crisis or experiencing homelessness with services. The Street Enforcement Team may work varying shifts, evenings, and weekends.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership, communication, and customer service skills. The ideal candidate will be able to manage stressful situations and have experience in safety, compliance, enforcement, or another related field. This position will also require a team-oriented individual with a well-balanced, sensible, and adaptable approach to solving problems.
Job Responsibilities:
Functions as a Field Training Officer (FTO); trains Street Enforcement Team Members
Functions as a field training officer and performs lead work, when assigned, over program staff and others
Leads efforts to connect community members experiencing homelessness to services. Investigates solutions to problems encountered such as mental illness, drug addition, homelessness, and public health emergencies, such as syringes, feces, hazardous materials, drugs and unsafe encampments
Collaborates across agencies on homeless outreach and service coordination. Works closely with DOTI, HOST, DPR, DPHE and other agencies to care for our unhoused neighbors
Assists management by implementing, overseeing, evaluating and recommending improvements in the day-today operations of the team
Patrols an assigned area of the City on foot, bicycle and/or in a vehicle, serves as a visual deterrent to code violations, and stays alert to dangers such as working in secluded areas and/or dealing with potentially hostile and emotional contacts with the public
Issues warnings and citations for violations of ordinances, other rules, and regulations
Prepares documents and testimony for court and administrative hearings, including incident reports and narratives.
Communicates with law enforcement personnel to provide information, request back-up and coordinate assistance related to enforcement issues and public safety emergencies.
Enforces parking codes by issuing notices and citations for parking violations, explains codes and regulations regarding parking violations to the public, and provides information regarding state and city parking rules and regulations.
Maintains daily activity logs and records.
Operates a two-way radio to report enforcement information, request assistance, or to receive dispatching orders and operates hand-held computers and printers for citation issuance,
Interacts with the public to increase awareness of City ordinances
Communicates with diverse and multi-lingual community members, represents the department at various public events
Works collaboratively and cooperatively with teams to accomplish large and small tasks (e.g. agencies, partners, law enforcement, fire/EMS, park rangers)
Uses various computer programs to create logs, reports, to track and document field work
Works long arduous days while remaining safe, positive, and focused; works in inclement weather conditions and stands/walks continuously for long periods of time
Performs other related duties as assigned.
About You
We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement Three (3) years of experience in regulation compliance, enforcement, safety, community outreach or similar experience.
Education & Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
Licensure & Certification: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Must possess a valid Denver Street Enforcement Team Official Certification by the end of the training program. Possession of CPR, First Aid, Naloxone Certifications by the completion of probation.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
