The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Finance and Accounting work group as a full-time Accounting Technician I.
Working in the cashier's office the Accounting Technician I will perform centralized revenue collection, cashiering and posting of funds for various city departments and agencies. All related documents must be analyzed for accuracy and completeness. All policies and procedures must be adhered to before acceptance and processing. This position also performs reconciliation of funds and prepares deposits while adhering to cash handling requirements set by the city's Office of the Controller, the State of Colorado and other entities that govern accounting practices and procedures. Other duties include the preparation and processing of documents and forms in accordance with specialized Short Check Notification, internal billing, daily and month end reports.
Key responsibilities may include:
Performing a variety of entry-level to routine accounting transactions, which include preparing, maintaining, and verifying records, ledgers, logs, and statements, complying and tabulating balances for records, coding data according to set accounting procedures, and ensuring accuracy and compliance of financial transactions
Working with stakeholders both internal and external to the city to respond to general inquires, and providing general information and assistance regarding accounting information and transactions, which include the status of accounts, payments, issuance of checks, and available balances
Identifying and reconciling routine discrepancies between records and accounting systems, compiling supporting documentation, and creating records of corrective action
Receiving and preparing routine revenue deposits from other city departments/agencies/divisions or outside entities doing business with the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. The successful candidate will also reconcile cash and credit statements, prepare bank deposit slips, allocate funds to appropriate accounts, verify deposits with bank statements, ensure cashiers and terminals are sufficiently funded, and record financial information in accounting systems
Processing invoices for payment of goods and services, verifying contract rates and terms, working with stakeholders to ensure timeliness and accuracy of payments, and recording inventory of new capital equipment and fixed assets
Tracking and maintaining various ledgers, registers, and journals in accordance with established fiscal policies and procedures
Reviewing routine accounting transactions, documents, and financial calculations to ensure accuracy of records and data, and ensure compliance with fiscal rules, policies, and procedures
Preparing and assisting with the preparation of routine accounting reports, statements, and documents, which includes gathering and organizing information and data
Performing other related duties as assigned
Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
Prior experience in a public or private regulatory environment, cash handling and governmental or general accounting
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Ability to communicate effectively - verbally and in writing
Efficiently demonstrates excellent time/work management skills
Works well under pressure and able to multitask
Strong attention to detail and highly organized
Ability to work as part of a team to support both internal and external customers
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with Enterprise Cashiering Solutions (ECS) system, Accela permit tracking system, and Workday

Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of clerical experience, which includes One (1) year of experience performing financial recordkeeping
Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
License/Certifications: None
