We are seeking a Program Manager to join our Business Development Team. This position will perform high-level economic development activities that support the City's business attraction, expansion, and retention work. This position may require travel up to 10% of the time.
The Business Development Team is a cohesive team of experienced economic development professionals and program specialists focused on growing and sustaining the local business environment, from the business curious and emerging entrepreneurs to Denver's largest foundational firms and global companies. The team delivers initiatives that attract, retain, and grow Denver's businesses and encourage and support entrepreneurial opportunities, with an emphasis on targeted business clusters central to Denver's long-term competitiveness as well as initiatives that focus on fostering economic inclusivity and enhancing Denver's future economic resiliency.
This position requires an economic development professional possessing the skills and abilities to serve as lead staff for the department's prospect activity and pipeline as well as other business development-related initiatives. This role will establish, enhance, and maintain relationships with local business leaders, commercial brokers, local Chambers, industry associations, business services providers, and Denver International Airport to strengthen understanding of the challenges, opportunities and shared efforts in sustaining our local business environment. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, providing strategic advice and information on economic development activity, trends and issues, and leading and coordinating special projects and initiatives. This professional position will conduct business outreach in order to build strategic business relationships. This will include providing consultation to individual businesses and groups of businesses on a wide array of services available directly through DEDO or partner organizations. This position is responsible to manage key business development programs as assigned and will also take on project/program manager roles for cross-agency and city-wide initiatives with an economic development focus. The position may also have supervisory responsibilities and/or serve as a team lead.
Specifically, this position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Guide new and existing businesses through the start-up, scale-up, relocation or expansion process Serve as an initial contact for new and expanding business inquiries
Provide local market information to businesses interested in locating in Denver
Provide site selection assistance
Create, review and package business attraction, expansion, and retention proposals for prospects, delivering timely, relevant, and accurate information
Initiate and participate in business retention activities including contact with business owners and managers, follow-up phone calls, client visits, information requests, research and proposals
Consult with business executives to identify and evaluate business needs/challenges and coordinate business support services needed from various resources and programs
Learn and represent all business support programs typically applicable to attraction, expansion, and retention projects, and make suitable referrals to partner agencies and organizations
Serve as program manager for specific DEDO business support programs and/or initiatives as assigned
Serve as a team lead for assigned areas of responsibilities and assigned business sectors
Research and provide recommendations on community economic development opportunities
Propose goals and objectives for inclusion in DEDO's strategy and workplans
Research, compile, analyze, interpret, and prepare data on local economic/market conditions
Performs other related duties as assigned
About You
Our ideal candidate has: Excellent knowledge of principles and practices of business development, attraction and retention, in an urban setting serving a diverse population
Independently identify opportunities, and proactively generate new leads and initiate new relationships on behalf of DEDO
Ability to conduct professional research and (data) analysis and to synthesize information from many sources
Ability to prepare written and graphic materials; to compose clear and concise reports; to prepare and make presentations; and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with constituents, professional peers and elected officials
Ability to adjust to a variety of situations and to creatively and effectively work within established policy guidelines and regulations
Experience with MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and web project tools

Experience: Three (3) years of full performance professional level experience developing, implementing, and administering programs
Education and Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education for all classifications. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
