Join our team at the California State University, Office of the Chancellor, and make a difference in providing access to higher education. We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs Coordinator
. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 14 paid holidays a year.
Salary
The salary range for this classification is $3,120 to $5,283
per month.

Position Information
The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Strategic Communications and Public Affairs Coordinator
to support the department through general public relations activities including writing and proofreading, management of calendars, maintaining plans and distribution lists, oversight of the compilation, distribution and posting of the News of the CSU (daily news clips), responds to internal and external inquiries and serves as the administrative assistant for the department.

Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Strategic Communications & Public Affairs
, the Strategic Communications and Public Affairs Coordinator
will:
-Write stories and create content for fact sheets, newsletters, or other press materials as assigned.
-Monitor media coverage in support of the News of the CSU daily clips or individual campaigns or subjects and generates coverage reports as directed.
-Maintain department communication plans and calendars.
-Serve as the receptionist and administrative assistant for the department.
-Maintain department budget.
-Order and process invoices, expense/travel claims and reimbursements.
-Conduct research on vendors, equipment and software and facilitates the ordering of equipment or software as needed.
-Maintain departmental databases; create and maintain distribution lists.
-Post and distribute press releases.
-Update campus public affairs rosters and contact information.
-Distribute communiques to the department staff and campus public affairs/communications colleagues on behalf of the department.
-Respond to informational inquiries from internal departments, campus colleagues and the general public.
-Provide clerical support and conduct general office administrative duties at the direction of the Senior Director.
-Seek contract bids from vendors and maintains all electronic records.
-Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This position requires:
-Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, English or a related field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of education and related experience is required.
-Two years of PR experience.
-High skill level in Microsoft Office suite of software products.
-High proficiency with technology.
-Strong writing and verbal skills.
-Strong judgement and the ability to maintain information of confidential nature.
-Ability to complete tasks under deadline or in emergency situations.
-High comfort level with technology and software.
-Resourcefulness.
-Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.
-Ability to multi-task on a wide variety of projects.
-Attention to detail.
-Proofreading skills.
-Professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
-PR agency experience preferred.
-At least two years of office-related work experience in maintaining a department budget and general office duties preferred.
