GENERAL PURPOSE:
Incumbent in this position, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, provides safe, efficient and effective vehicles and equipment for golf operations maintenance and construction. The salary range for this position is $22.31- $32.40 per hour with a hiring range of $22.31 - $27.36
, depending on qualifications and experience.
Position will close to applicants on: Monday, 3/14/22 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervises and oversees the maintenance of safe, reliably performing vehicles and equipment by diagnosing problems, performing preventative maintenance, coordinating flow of work and analyzes priorities for equipment needs. Work includes, but is not limited to, gasoline, diesel and battery powered engines, hydraulic systems, tune-ups, ignitions, carburetor, power equipment, electrical systems, brakes, etc.
Maintains sharp cutting units with reels that will cut paper each day by spin grinding, relief grinding and back lapping, as needed, throughout growing season.
Accomplishes off-season maintenance on all equipment by providing leadership and directing others as available.
Works as an effective part of the maintenance team by responding to change and special needs with flexibility in a positive manner and by taking initiative to resolve conflicts with others independently.
Ensures staff are qualified by identifying and delivering training.
Maintains dialogue and relationships with the public and City staff on a constructive level by employing effective interpersonal skills.
Prepares and maintains accurate records by recording maintenance, parts usage, labor, and down time.
Monitors stock purchases required items
Provides cosmetically clean and aesthetically pleasing vehicles and equipment by applying bodywork, fabricating, painting, steam cleaning, washing and waxing.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Other duties as assigned.

Supervise and direct the work of seasonal staff as necessary.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Must possess considerable knowledge of principles and procedures used in the operation, maintenance and repair of light and heavy equipment, including skill in diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in vehicles and equipment. Must have the knowledge and ability to operate testing tools and equipment including but not limited to micrometrics, volt amp meters and hydraulic test equipment. Possess a thorough knowledge of reel cutting/bed knife technology and understands unique operation of the machinery used to sharpen and maintain them. Must be able to read and understand vehicle maintenance and repair manuals; give written and oral instructions; and to communicate with a variety of people including vendors, users and co-workers directly and by using a two-way radio system. Must be able to apply basic knowledge of geometric and math, related to mechanical repairs and fabrication. Must be physically able to carry, lift and position parts used in repair work for a sustained period of time. Must be physically able to operate light construction equipment and vehicles that are being repaired.

Education and/or formal training
Two years’ mechanical school training.
Experience
Three years’ experience in servicing, repairing, preventative maintenance, welding, fabricating automotive items. The experience level must be equivalent to that of a Journeyman Automotive Mechanic.
Licensure and/or certifications
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Material and equipment directly used
Variety of mechanical, electronic tools and equipment, golf course maintenance equipment, two-way radio, City vehicles, telephones, computer, fax machine, calculator, electrical meters and load tester, bed knife grinder, reel spin grinder, relief grinder, lifts, oxy-acetylene and arc welders, etc.
Working environment/physical activities
Typical mechanic shop environment. Will be required to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays. Requires bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, and kneeling to perform the essential functions of the job. Manual dexterity is required to complete work tasks through safe and proper operation of hand tools, power tools, and motor vehicles. Incumbent will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions. May be exposed to noxious fumes from vehicles and equipment.
SPECIAL DEMANDS
Must be able to read and understand vehicle maintenance and repair manuals; give written and oral instructions; and to communicate with a variety of people including vendors, users and co-workers directly and by using a two-way radio system. Must be able to:
Apply basic knowledge of math, related to mechanical repairs and fabrication.
Physically carry, lift and position parts used in repair work for a sustained period of time.
Physically able to operate light construction equipment and vehicles being repaired.
Move, position and maneuver cutting units weighing 90 pounds.
Operate golf equipment on steep, uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
Perform repairs while on the floor or ground when necessary.
