Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Ensures well-maintained, high quality, safe and aesthetically pleasing cemetery grounds, sports fields and park facilities. Operates and maintains cemetery and/or sports field maintenance equipment, cleans and prepares facilities and hardscape areas. Leads part time staff to accomplish identified work goals and assists in the completion of other tasks as assigned. Flexibility a must and ability to work various hours including nights, weekends and holidays required.
The salary range for this position is $18.71- $27.07
per hour with a hiring range of
18.71
22.88
depending on qualifications and experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ensures safe, clean and well-maintained cemetery grounds, restrooms, shelters, playgrounds / play-courts and sports fields by conducting inspections, custodial services, maintenance procedures and repairs
Maintains equipment to ensure reliability & safety
Excavates and backfills grave sites safely & efficiently
Performs sports field layouts, ball field preparations, inspections and maintenance related field management.
Ensures the most efficient and effective use of time and resources by planning and scheduling work for self & others
Completes work tasks through safe and proper use/operation of various tools and equipment
Works as an effective part of a City-team by responding to change and special needs with flexibility and in a positive manner by taking initiative to resolve conflicts with others independently
Maintains dialogue and relationships with the public, special interest groups and City staff on a constructive level by employing effective interpersonal skills
Communicates and/or records accurate & complete information for internal documentation, reports and plans
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Aids and assists with parks & public grounds duties as assigned. Incumbent may be re-assigned to other sections within the Parks Division with similar duties if it is in the best interest of the Division.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Supervises part-staff and volunteers, as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a variety of people directly and/or via mobile phone, computer and two-way radio. Ability to perform strenuous physical work, including but not limited to, sports field maintenance & layout in all weather conditions. Basic landscape plant identification skills and ability to diagnose turf disease problems preferred. Ability to safely operate a truck, trailer and other maintenance equipment in an urban setting using proper traffic control devices and personal protective equipment. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with co-workers, special interest groups and the general public. Ability to physically maneuver uneven cemetery grounds, sports fields and parks with various topographical conditions to visually identify needed work and to inspect work results. Ability to program and monitor computerized controller systems using mathematical principles; basic knowledge of electrical circuits and repair preferred.

Education and/or experience
Two years of experience in general park facility and ball field maintenance, and/or sports field layout and maintenance, and/or general cemetery operations with an emphasis on duties most closely related to the position’s Essential Job Duties preferred.
Licensure and/or certifications
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Current possession of or ability to obtain Confined Space Entry, CPR and First Aid certifications within six months of hire date. May be required to obtain a State of Colorado commercial pesticide applicator’s license within six months of employment.
Material and equipment directly used
Utility vehicle, tractor with backhoe and front bucket, trencher, ball field drag mat, field painter, mowers, back pack and hand held sprayers and blowers, fertilizer spreaders, hand and power tools, two-way radio, mobile phone, City vehicles including trailers and dump truck.
Working conditions and physical requirements
Ability to do strenuous physical work and to work in all weather conditions including:
Operating various types of tools and equipment associated with field layout, landscape maintenance and the building trades.
Lifting, carrying and stocking heavy items and bagged materials.
Mixing, leveling and wheel barrowing cement for foundation work.
Removing snow by hand with shovel and with a snow blower.
Digging, sweeping and raking various landscaping and ball field maintenance materials.
Working in below-ground level trenches and from above-ground level ladders or scaffolds
Ability to safely push, pull, carry, and/or move tools and equipment (up to 50 lbs)
Ability to move and position granite monuments in excess of 250 lbs.
