About Our Job

The Denver Department of Public Safety is seeking a Supervisor to add to our Street Enforcement Team (SET). This team will be unarmed civilians that will enforce quality of life ordinances in the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. The Street Enforcement Team will have the authority to issue citations for a wide range of ordinance violations, but not make arrests.
The Street Enforcement Team Supervisor will direct the day-to-day operations and administration of the Street Enforcement Team. The supervisor will possess proven leadership and organization skills. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing a new program or related supervisory duties in safety, compliance, enforcement, case management or another related field. This position will report to the Executive Director's office and is expected to operate within the guidelines of the Department of Public Safety and exercise judgment in accordance with the mission, vision, and guidelines of the organization.
Job Responsibilities: Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of staff members, provides technical expertise to staff, and establishes unit and staff work goals and objectives.
Implements safety standards and develops procedures to ensure compliance.
Reviews, develops, and/or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provides work instruction, assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments, and encourages innovation. Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
Resolves problems, mediates conflicts encountered during daily operations, determines appropriate solutions, and promotes teamwork. Encourages regular communication and informs staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization.
Develops goals, documents performance, provides performance feedback and formally evaluates the work of the employee; provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Assists staff to achieve performance standards and identifies opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards.
Develops and reports Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the SET
Documents causes for disciplinary action, initiates letters of reprimand, and makes formal recommendations for disciplinary action. Responds to formal and informal employee grievances and prepares written responses.
Conducts hiring interviews and selects candidate(s) for job opening(s).
Oversees the preparation of various legal documents by SET Members and the Senior Member. Supervises Members' testimony in court proceedings.
Ensures staff meets the required certification standards and qualifications in the use of weapons such as tactical batons and OC spray
Provides technical assistance regarding the correction of violations of the Revised Municipal Code. Consults with community groups, citizens and various city and state agencies.
Implements and interprets policies and procedures developed by higher level managers or supervisors.
Assists in developing, recommending, and coordinating the implementation of new procedures for the assigned functions or unit.
Assists in the development of departmental budgets.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
About You
We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience in regulation compliance, enforcement, safety, community outreach or similar experience. One (1) year as lead, coordinator, or over program staff or others. Preferred experience managing a new program implementation.
Education & Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
Licensure & Certification: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Must possess a valid Denver Street Enforcement Team Official Certification by the end of the training program. Possession of CPR, First Aid, Naloxone Certifications by the completion of probation.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
