DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The purpose of the Infrastructure Division is to effectively manage the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (HAS) infrastructure by establishing and maintaining asset management standards and effectively executing capital renewal and rehabilitation projects.
The purpose of the Maintenance Mechanic III (Locksmith) position is to prevent mechanical failure of equipment, to identify and correct safety hazards, and inspect, repair, clean and maintain several types of key mechanisms within compliance of state and federal regulations and policies. Responsible for the installation and maintenance of locks, keys and security systems. Duplicates keys, replaces and re-keys locks as necessary, and ensures that all security devices are in adequate working condition. Install locks and closers in doors and disassemble electrical and mechanical locking devices. Maintain locking systems by repairing and replacing worn springs, tumblers and other parts. Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.
The Maintenance Mechanic III duties will include but are not limited to:
Installs mechanical equipment and components.
Repairs, refurbishes and maintains several types of pumps (i.e. hydraulic, oil, gas, diesel) and miscellaneous rotating and reciprocating equipment and machinery.
Operates vehicles to and from work sites.
Repairs and maintains equipment and parts. Practices equipment and parts conservation.
Performs additional maintenance activities such as painting, a/c repairs, carpentry, carpet, plumbing, concrete and roofing repairs as in general building maintenance.
Rehabilitates and monitors equipment, facilities, and systems (i.e. elevators, escalators, automatic doors, ticket dispenser's electric gates, a/c and heating equipment).
Provides preventive maintenance to equipment, buildings, facilities and systems.
May lead and train lower level personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker. Walking and standing for extended periods of time. Working rotation, weekends including holiday shifts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving. May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to candidates with a graduation from high school, supplemented by completion of a private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work. Certification/Licensure Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America is a plus. At least (1) one year of experience working as a locksmith in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, performing preventive maintenance, utilizing a maintenance management system, customer service skills, team-oriented workplace is highly preferred.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
